Gone by morning. He knew every face that passed through this city. And not one of them knew his. That is the particular loneliness of a man who carries everyone and is carried by no one.

The painting has been missing since 1990.

The shroud of mystery surrounding this painting's disappearance and its incredible beauty were the reasons I wanted to do my own attempt at reenacting it.
